A Mini Masterpost of Great Traditional Art Books
Hi there!
Here is a curated list of my favorite traditional art books.
The library is a fantastic place for books, though for art books, I like to buy them eventually so I can reference them whenever, forever.
Colored Pencil
The Ultimate Guide To Colored Pencil: Over 40 step-by-step demonstrations for both traditional and watercolor pencils by Gary Greene
An absolutely fantastic pick. I love his realistic style, clear text, and explanations. There is a mix of useful demonstrations and concepts.Colored Pencil Painting Bible: Techniques for Achieving Luminous Color and Ultrarealistic Effects by Alyona Nickelsen

What does it mean to be “blue collar?”
It means that what you sell for a living is your labor and whatever special knowledge and skills you have accumulated facilitate your ability to do a particular job and do it well. It means achieving raises and benefits to help you survive your retirement years.
Blue collar means stock market speculation and silver-tongued salesmanship have no place in your life. It means depending upon mostly yourself to make your way in the world. It means never

The Timeline of deviantART
In 2014, DeviantArt turned 14 years old. Fourteen years is a long time, some of you reading this may be younger than that. I've gathered some historical information with the help of moonbeam13 (https://www.deviantart.com/moonbeam13) and some members of the Community Relations team to help enlighten those of you who have joined in recent years and missed out on a chunk of DeviantArt's life.
I hope you enjoy taking a step back in time!
Please note: it is extremely difficult to track down some events in DeviantArt's history (in particular, the first few years) and that some dates are only approximate.

As you get older, you may begin to see birthdays as a distinctive point in time. A time for reflection on past successes, past roadblocks, past lessons. I also see it as an opportunity to look forward, set goals, aim ridiculously high. I'm sure everyone's heard people joke about disliking getting older and lamenting another year passing, but not me. Not yet, at least. The wisdom and hard lessons I've had to learn over the years helps me map out my immediate future. I may stumble, sure, but I also have a lifetime of overcoming obstacles and analyzing achievements to guide my decisions. All I can do is keep learning and growing.

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY MYTHS
Myth No 1:
People will stare at me, sue me, beat me up, break my camera, think I am a terrorist, shoot me and dance on my grave.
No, most likely people won't even notice you. Most likely they will think you are taking pictures of something else around you. Even if they do notice you, most likely they will pretend not to see you. Sometimes they will look at you as if you were a weirdo (which you are) and they will keep away, but most often they won't mind being photographed. Sometimes they will even feel flattered by it (well, ok, don't think you will get girls' phone numbers this way, though). I never had problems ta

PE STREET AND NEIGHBORHOOD
Sometimes deciding if a photo fits Street category or not can be really quibbling.
Every subject can be photographed with a street approach and fit street photography, and every subject can be photographed with a not-street approach and fit something else.
Categories mean nothing outside this place (or other art sites) and mean nothing about the value or quality of an image.
Though they are useful to make it easier to see, discover, find street images.
I hope that these few lines will be able to clear some of the most common doubts in submitting to street category, and would spare you flipping a coin before subm

STREET, CHILDREN, IS A STATE OF MIND
Street, children, is a state of mind: what defines street photography is not the subject, but the 'forma mentis' of the photographer.
Street photography is a way to look at the ordinary and see something special or unusual in it, to look at everyday situations and find a decisive moment in them, to look at candid happenings and see iconic interactions between people and surroundings in them.
The iN-PUBLiC | Manifesto, one of the most representative sites about street photography in the world, states that "all the photographers featured there have been invited to show their work because they have the abil

Just because you shot it in the street...
PE: JUST BECAUSE YOU SHOT IT IN THE STREET IT DOESN'T MAKE IT "STREET PHOTOGRAPHY"
Street Photography is a largely misunderstood and misinterpreted photography genre.
Browsing dA's Street Gallery I'd say that people are under the impression that street photography is photography of:
1 street signs
2 side-walk close-ups
3 love padlocks
4 shoes (All Stars preferably)/photographer's feet
5 graffiti/tags/street art/cool vandalism
6 empty roads
7 cats
8 skaters
9 abandoned buildings/urband decay/trash
10 cool cars
11 cosplayers posing in fairs
12 family in family-trips, friends in cool poses
13 sexy models in subways/women wrestling
I mentioned I was in Mammoth over the holidays, which, besides an annoying sickness for the first few days, was so much fun I don't even know where to start. But I'll get into that in another Journal.
I wanted to share with you a note I found on my desk at hq (https://www.deviantart.com/hq) when I returned. Yanira works here at the office once or twice a week and she had her nephews in with her during the break.
We have a ton of these deviantART coasters laying around HQ so they must have found them. We originally made them for originaldrinkanddraw (https://www.deviantart.com/originaldrinkanddraw) and I'm so glad they found them! I'm going to have to get more just in case the elves come again!

I never fell in love with your face.
Neither your body.
I never needed your sex, nor your gentle kiss.
(Though I broke myself in two wishing for it.)
Instead I fell for your smile.
Though you gave it out rarely.
I fell for your naivety, your intellect, your laugh.
The best part of loving you, was the look you gave me.
(As though I might have been worth your time.)
